3 Wheel Double Buggy

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel stroller travel system wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accommodate the second seat using adapters. Certain models let you add an additional board for older kids who are ready to walk, but require a little help.

For a light-weight option that's great for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move and comes with a large basket with plenty of storage space. It can be used to accommodate twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats or a carrycot and seat. However, the seats need to be oriented forward and there's not enough space to store a bag of groceries underneath which is why you'll need a sidepack for that.

Mountain Buggy Duet will be a good option for you if you enjoy off-road driving. It's a side by tandem with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. It is easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and over kerbs. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake for safety and security.

The UPPAbaby Vista 2 double is a lightweight option that can be used by twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats have multi-position reclining and UPF 50+ sunshades, while the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's 'PiggyBack’ board for older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are among the most well-known available. This is due to their superb comfort. It's an all-terrain vehicle, with soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate a massive 30 seating configurations, and has an integrated ride-on board that can be used for older children who prefer walking, plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.

The phil&teds dots are great single buggys that are easily modified to accommodate two (or three!) different configurations. This is particularly helpful for parents with children in a car seat since the frame can be equipped with a wedgie that allows for optimal position, and also car seat adapters for a wider range of brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children are able to push it. It is crucial to have a smooth ride because babies can feel every bump on the road. This is particularly true if you are driving on rough terrain, such as grass or unpaved roads. Some models also have locking front wheels to assist in maneuvering and navigating obstacles such as curbs.

Some models come with air-filled tyres that give you a great all-terrain ride, but can be prone to punctures so ensure you have spares in the trunk. Certain models come with gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to cushion bumps. They are less likely to puncture, but they might cause discomfort for your child if they decide to jog.

The side-by-side is the most suitable buggy for city walks. It has a brilliant suspension system that allows you to easily and comfortably navigate any terrain. You can also upgrade the duet using our dual kit, allowing you to accommodate two children - all within the same footprint!

MFM reviewer Kath took the Urban Glide 2 through its trials with her newborn and 3 year old, and found that it was able to handle difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over pavements that were bumpy and grassy cobbles, dirt tracks and cobbles with ease and was easy to manoeuvre around corners and climb up and down kerbs. It's also very comfortable to jog, with the 16" rear wheels and lockable swivel front wheel providing a safe running experience." The Urban Glide 2 is loaded with features too as a large basket with zip-top cover large cushioned seat with 50+ UV hood, and game-changing lights that are simple to use and rechargeable.

Folding

A 3-wheel double buggy can fold up quite neatly to be stored. There are models that fold flat and then stand up (as if they're in a pushchair position) as well as those that pop open to reveal an umbrella-style fold, with a hand-operated brake. In general the more wheels a buggy has the more comfortable it will be to maneuver over rough terrain. This is particularly true if the wheels are larger than average. This will give you more stability and make it less likely that your children will tip or flip over.

The iCandy Wave is a popular option. It can be used in conjunction with an infant car-seat from birth, and later converted into a double buggy side-by-side when your child is old. It's a lightweight option which makes it easy to push and is packed full of extra features including a bumper bar and raincover.

The phil&teds sports is an alternative option. It is future-proof as it's an excellent buggy and can be adapted to take two (or three!) All of this is contained in its compact footprint. It features a clever design of three wheels with a sling for greater maneuverability and stability.

If you want to jog with your kids this is the ideal double buggie for jogging because it has a lockable front wheel that will help you stay in control when you're on off-road or hilly tracks. It features a big undercarriage, a movable handlebar, and a soft suspension for the most comfortable ride.

It's a light and compact model that folds by one hand, making it perfect for traveling. It's compatible with a wide selection of infant car seats, and comes with an undercarriage basket that can be pulled out that can be used to store items. It's on the expensive side, but it does have several notable features that make it an excellent value choice, including its slick one-click fold and lots of extras, such as a bumper bar and raincover.

Storage

Many people are amazed by the capacity of storage offered by the triple wheeled double buggy. Some models, such as the Roma Atlas, have a large basket as well as two zip pockets on the hood that you can store your phone and keys. It is also designed to be able to handle a little rough terrain, making it a great choice for family walks or all-terrain hikes.

Other models, such as the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of room and the ability to transport twins or two toddlers and a child. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack board'). It's the most compact side-by-side double in the market and comes with some impressive technology, including games-changing LED lights on each side of the buggy frame to increase security in low-light conditions.

The Joie Evalite Duo, a lightweight stroller that can hold twins from birth and is world-facing with a lie-flat seat it's a different kind of stroller. The clever frame can expand to accommodate an extra seat, but it weighs just 11kg. This makes it simple to lift and maneuver. It can be used with a car seat, carrycot, or both. This allows you to have the best of both worlds.
